All YBAA Corporate Members and designated brokers abide by a strict Code of Ethics & Business Practice ensuring that all business transactions follow the basic principles of fairness, accuracy, and honesty. The Code addresses broker relations with the public, clients, yacht yards and fellow brokers.
YBAA offers members standardized, copyrighted contractual forms, for both U.S. and Canadian use, including: Yacht Purchase & Sale Agreement, Central Listing Agreement, Open Listing Agreement and Acceptance of Yacht. When properly used, the forms help to clarify the terms and agreements between seller / broker, buyer / seller and broker / broker. In co-op sales with other YBAA brokers, you will know what to expect in the way of documents to be signed. YBAA Forms are available online free to all members and are updated annually.
YBAA and CPYB present a varied series of teleconference e-seminars throughout the year, many FREE, providing valuable education and insights for participating brokers. The e-seminars facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience to help identify potential pitfalls and the possible solutions for the multitude of challenges that a small business owner and/or manager faces daily. Specific e-seminars are available for brokerage principals, CPYB brokers, brokers and other industry leaders.
The Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB) designation is awarded to qualified brokers upon successful completion of the 3-hour CPYB exam. The CPYB program sets the standard for the professional practice of yacht brokerage in the U.S. and Canada. The program is sponsored by every yacht broker association in North America.
The Florida Yacht & Ship Brokers Act requires that brokers in the state of Florida have a current Yacht & Ship Broker License issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Division of Florida Land Sales, Condominiums and Mobile Homes. Also, brokers and their salesman must display their licenses and maintain a current mailing address at an accessible office location, or “principal place of business” within the state of Florida, in addition to maintaining an activity file of all transactions that take place in the state.
To assist members who do not have a principal place of business in Florida, YBAA provides such a facility, for a small annual fee, in Ft. Lauderdale for the purposes of posting valid licenses and maintaining broker records, as required by state law. The YBAA Florida Office also assists members with forwarding mail and updating files as necessary.
An annual series of FREE, one-day regional luncheon conferences offered through YBAA’s partnership with YachtWorld.com. Attendees receive training in preparation for the CPYB exam, as well as networking opportunities and participation in business presentations, technology sessions and panel discussions. These free, convenient conferences provide added value for all members wishing to keep in close touch with the issues and challenges facing the industry, and CPYB brokers receive 10 recertification credits for full-day attendance.
